Following my recommendations, I expect you to see results from my treatments. I expect you to feel that you’re heading on a path of healing. And for any acute symptom, like a cough, cold or urinary tract infection we want to see improvement within 24 to 48 hours.
how it’s done:
My healing methods are a combination of western technical knowledge, modern thinking, and thousands of years of eastern healing remedies to effectively connect with you on a mental, emotional and physical level.
I use very focused simplified diagnostic markers that i learned through intensive study with
Dr. Matt Van Benschoten. I am honored to be carrying on Dr. Matt’s legacy of work which blends 30 years of successful treatments with the pharmacology of herbs, public research of the herbal constituents as well as time-honored traditional usage.

traditional wisdom. modern thinking
The MMVBS practice represents an approach to clinical healing that I’ve dreamed of performing. This involves melding the best of Eastern Medicine with the research and scientific perspective of Western Medicine. Since I began studying with Dr. Matt four years ago, I am more passionate than ever about my work. I received my master’s at Emperor’s College of Oriental Medicine. I am licensed to practice all forms of Oriental Medicine by both National and State Boards. My specialties include stroke, neurological disorders, upper respiratory conditions, gastrointestinal and urogenital disorders, environmental exposures, Lyme disease, fertility, pediatrics, as well as physical and emotional pain
"I first consulted Ellen Elphand because I suffered from chronic migraines, as many as 3-4 per week. She did a thorough examination checking for all sorts of things and actually asked me about problems that I had forgotten to mention. I was impressed. In addition to prescribing herbs, she suggested that I change my diet. I thought that was going to be impossible, and it was hard at first because I thought it was just depriving myself of the foods I love. But Ellen helped me through, suggesting substitutes and brands that are delicious rather than what I had always considered to be nasty-tasting.
Shortly after beginning to take the herbs and working with the diet change, the migraines I had been plagued with for more than twenty years reduced in number from the customary 3-4 per week to one about every two weeks. What a gigantic change that was for me. After a year of the diet change my cholesterol dropped by 50 points. Wow!
In addition to being a great diagnostician, she is a tremendous healer. She is caring and she listens. She follows up to make sure things are working for you and she offers support and encouragement all along the way. She is a skilled acupuncturist and has made me feel better on numerous occasions with her magic needles.
I give my highest recommendation for Ellen Elphand. Everyone can benefit from her knowledge, expertise and healing arts."
"I started working with Dr. Matt Van Benschoten and Ellen Elphand in the fall of 2012. We were addressing a complex health issue that had been with me for over two decades that no other modality or practitioner had been able to effectively treat. For the first few appointments, Ellen shadowed Dr. Matt during his diagnosis and prescription process, and it was she that checked up on me between sessions and explained all the ins and outs of what was happening during the treatment. After the first few treatments I started seeing Ellen as my primary practitioner with her consulting with Dr. Matt at choice decision points. For over the last 6 months I have been seeing
Ellen exclusively. Within a few months of my first treatments I began to see some relief of my symptoms and as I continued working with Ellen, my healing has continued to increase so that now I am 95% free of symptoms. Ellen’s competence with Dr. Matt’s methods is evident in the results I have and continue to feel. I am clear that I will continue to trust her with my health in the future. Additionally, Ellen is incredibly personable, generous with her time and I know she deeply cares about my well-being. As a Chinese Medicine practitioner myself, I feel very confident recommending Ellen."
To Whom It May Concern,
I write this letter in support of the life changing work of Ellen Elphand. As a practitioner of acupuncture and herbal medicine, Ellen has guided me through illness and discomfort – to a place of feeling physically and emotional well. I have an enormous amount of trust and faith in her work, her skill and her approach.
It is deeply meaningful that Ellen’s bedside manner is both intuitive and tender. Her regard for health and well-being, her knowledge of mind and body, her openness, and her spirit…all make for a rejuvenating and healing rapport. It is a breath of fresh air to work with a practitioner who takes the energy and interest in their patient’s goals. Ellen takes the time and the focus that makes me feel both seen and heard.
Most importantly, after having struggled with both pain and suffering, I am thrilled to feel better and stronger…and I have Ellen to thank for guiding me and knowing what I needed.
